What Are You Really Looking For When You Take a Day Off to Write?
Need a One Day Writing Retreat
Taking a day to write and nothing else is now a regular part of my writing practice, not an exception, not a treat. I do not have to earn it.
Would you like a day off to write? Not to prove anything, not to catch up, not to redeem yourself, but to surrender yourself to four hours of flow.
Would you like to join me and a small group of writers for the day in London to write?
Writing rarely opens through intensity alone. It opens through continuity — the sense that you are allowed to approach the work without each session having to prove your seriousness. We write because we want to write and that is enough.
WRITE IN, is my monthly one-day writing retreat.
Structured yet spacious, held in calm company, and free from comparison — a day of writing, not performance.
Here’s what past attendees have said:
“The first Writer’s Retreat was a great day. Brilliant company, and so good to have focused time to work on Draft 8.” Kevin O’Brien
“The most productive writing session I’ve had for a good while.” Claire Tomkins
“I felt like I had travelled somewhere protected, and the day was productive and encouraging. I would do this again in a minute.” Catherine Temma Davidson
If you’ve been craving a day to write, you’d be very welcome.
When: Thursday 12 February 2026, 9:45am–2:15pm GMT
Where: Hammersmith Quaker Meeting House, London
What to expect: Gentle guided writing sprints, peaceful breaks, tea, coffee and biscuits, a small, welcoming group — no pressure, no critique. Bring your notebook, laptop and kindness for yourself and your writing practice.
What You’ll Get from WRITE IN
Focused, nourishing writing time — writing sprints using a simple sand timer. Think of it as interval training for writers.
Space to breathe and recharge — optional breaks in a peaceful garden or cozy corners whenever you need.
A small welcoming community — writers who cheer each other on, in a safe, non-judgmental space.
Snacks and a cuppa — coffee, tea and biscuits to keep you going.
Personal goals and gentle accountability — set your intentions and watch your word count grow throughout the day.
Who is WRITE IN for?
Whether you’re just beginning to put pen to paper or have been writing for years, you’re welcome here. There’s no need to be “seasoned” or perfect — just bring your words, ideas and desire to nurture your writing practice.
Bring a new piece, return to a draft, and get into your writing groove. WRITE IN gives you the head space and group momentum to make it happen.

Spots are limited — small groups work best. Book now on Eventbrite.
Price: £57.41 (including booking fees)
Paid subscribers: £46 — priority places available. DM to book
Even if you can’t join in person this time, perhaps hold this question lightly on your own day off:
“What would help this day feel like part of a life with writing, rather than a test of it?”
You don’t need the day to save you and your work.
You just need it to stay open to letting the energy flow through you onto the page.
See you there?

This is such a lovely idea. I'm in NY - and nowhere near you - but I actually thought, for a moment. Ooh. Maybe I'll make a trip... Now I think - maybe I'll try something like this where I live. Thanks for the inspiration. :)
