Get paid and read your work at this new writing event in London in July

You may have seen we’ve been crowdfunding to put on a new community writing event in London on 19 July 2025. It’s happening…and submissions are now open. You have until midnight on Sunday 6 July to enter.

WRITE UP is a night of storytelling and music. We’re inviting writers to submit a piece up to 500 words on the theme of community and home. 8-10 writers will be offered a fee to read their work on the night.

Each writer will also choose 2-3 songs that are the soundtrack to their story. DJs’ will weave those tracks between readings, creating flow, resonance, and a shared atmosphere of celebration.

It’s part gig, part spoken word, part community gathering. It’ll be an unforgettable night.

Everyone involved gets paid for their time and skills we’re crowdfunding until the 30 June.

We want pieces that speak to belonging (or not), roots, reinvention, chosen family, where you come from and where you’re going. Interpret the theme freely, and it’s open to mix genre, fiction, memoir, poetry, experimental forms. We want a diverse range of writers, at all stages of their writing journey.

Writers need to be over 18. If you’re aged between 16-18 you can enter with parental permission, please get in touch to discuss.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submissions are now closed.

• You’ll need to copy and paste a piece of up to 500 words (that’s up to three to five minutes reading time).

• Include your selected 2-3 songs and how they relate to your story.

• It’ll ask for biographical and contact information
